“I am bored” is a phrase become trending across the world. People are killing themselves out of their boredom. Most people link boredom with the thought process. The moment your mind stops uttering its endless nonsense about everything you see or imagine, you tend to go bored. There is a famous saying “I think so I exist” which in other words mean I think and therefore I exist. It is funny how some people do not get the real meaning and accept the literal meaning how much stupid it is. There is no sense in accepting the fact that your existence has something to do with the thought process. Rather it is the another way around – “I exist, and so I may think”. The logic is simple because only when you exist on this Earth, you can think.We are getting controlled by our mind more than our brain. There are thousands of thoughts that come to our mind and it is a continuous process. It is our thoughts that control our mood and hence there are moments of happiness and the next moment is sadness and the very next could be something else depending upon what your mind throws in.

You should take control of yourself and not let the mind take control of you because the mind is nothing other than a garbage collector where every person that comes in your life, every person that you see in your life disposes their garbage and then the circus of mind begins. It should be up to you which thought to accept and which to reject and change your mood based on those. The mind will always throw you nonsense and rubbishes; you have to pick which is worthy enough in life and how you should capitalise on that. It is not going to happen overnight, but you have a miraculous weapon named habit and once you try and try and get into the habit of picking up the right thoughts and use them to control your mood, you are the driver of your life and not by your stupid mind.
The concept of meditation is that you need to have control over your thoughts. In meditation, they tell you to watch the thought, pick them up and understand whether they are good and bad and once you become aware of the thought process, you will have control over their generation, once you gain control, you can start and stop them as per your wish. Without meditation, you can form a habit of accepting good thought and let your mood influenced by them and rejecting the nonsense ones. By meditation, you can control your mind not directly but indirectly. In deep meditation, your mind becomes thoughtless, or at least you divert your attention to deep self that mind cease to exist for you and hence, your concentration increases as the thoughts in mind never get processed. Again, meditation is nothing but a controlled habit to make your mind complete free of thought and then you can order your mind to think whatever you want to. If you have the power of generating thought and making your mood, you will want your mood to be happy, and hence, only positive thoughts will get generated. It is the whole concept behind being optimistic and not pessimistic in all circumstances.

The idea of enlightenment is this that you are trapped in your thought process, you get swayed by your mind, and you are not in control of your life. Enlightenment is nothing but seeing things as they are, understanding the truth behind the apparent truth. Let us analysis a little more about the mind. The nature of mind is monotonous and hence the boredom. You always crave for something that you do not have and in this case you have variety. But when you get that variety, you want the previous state. Just, for example, take anything which you wanted to achieve in your life, and when you achieved it, you want to achieve more or want to go back to the previous state because you think that was better or more comfortable. There are things in life that happen the way you want it, and it makes you happy, but there is the majority of things that do not happen the way you want it, and it makes you unhappy. But if you see things as they are, you would understand that things happen the way they are supposed to, and it is you who believe in your mind that things should happen some other way. Things that are outside you, you have no control over, and hence it is said that do your job and forget the result. Doing your job is in your hand, and you must do it 100% but the outcome is partially in your hand and the rest in someone else’s or something else’s hand.

So if you are killing yourself of boredom in your education life, job life, or retirement life, you need to wake up and take control of your life. Maybe you should watch a baby, and how happy he is because it is not his mind that controls him, he is just letting things happen the way they are supposed to unconsciously and then enjoying whatever little has happened. Once you see this truth, once you realise you are just a slave of your mind and it is everything that your mind is doing to you indirectly, there is no stopping you. Just be alive, and there shall be no boredom in your life because apart from your little-closed room of thought and mood, there are so many things that you have never explored, never thought of doing, and it is time to do those to free your mind of the oppressive thoughts. It is time to remove your captivity by your mind and body and use them to drive you to the peak that you desire to achieve. That is the whole concept of walking on a spiritual path.
